St. Peter Claver Schools was facing a dilemma. They had a student lab of aging desktops that needed to be replaced but needed help choosing the right solution that was cost effective and easily manageable. St. Peter Claver Schools asked Bright Ideas Technology
to help them make and implement that decision.
In the past a school would’ve searched for the lowest cost desktops and simply replaced the equipment. That presented a costly and out of date option to their problem. Now however, other options for desktop computers have given organizations choices that better fit their organizations and how they work. St. Peter Claver schools had heard of Virtual Desktop Infrastructures and was interested in the concept. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, or VDI, is a method of reducing total cost using lower power, inexpensive devices at the individual desk, and gives you one control point to make changes and manage your environment. Bright Ideas Technology sat down with Saint Peter Claver school and after looking at their options was able to deliver a solution that was more cost effective than the competition. Of the options that were assessed by Saint Peter Claver schools Bright Ideas Technology was able to provide a solution that provided a solution to fit their needs, add additional desktops, and incorporated a switch upgrade at 44% less than the comparable solutions.
Bright Ideas partnered with N-Computing to deliver a centrally managed and low cost desktop solution that will allow future
expansion beyond the initial computer lab to the entire school while lowering the total cost of ownership with each additional client added. The N-computing client is a small, low powered device that mounted to the monitor that allowed Bright Ideas to more effectively use the lab space. With these small devices we were able to fit 28 desktops, an increase from the previous 17, and cut power costs by as much as 90%.
